Monopoly is one of the most successful board games of all time, but how well do we really know it? This talk covers the origin of the game and then focusses on the classic 1936 London board. How the properties were selected, the relationship between the members of each set and which ones don’t actually exist are just some of the questions addressed in this talk.
Expect some surprises and great images as we look at the history of these familiar locations and uncover some of the mysteries behind Monopoly.Everyone will learn something new about this familiar old friend of a board game.
About the Lecturer
A keen and accomplished photographer Roger Mendham has gained Distinctions from the Royal Photographic Society and has recently completed 3 years as President of the Surrey Photographic Association.
His photography concentrates on shapes, textures and colours and he has studied the history of photography from its earliest developments in the early 1830s to becoming a major art form in the late 20th and now 21st centuries. He has worked in central London for many years and accumulated a large portfolio of photographs as he walked the streets seeking new perspectives on familiar locations.
An experienced public speaker, his talks are all richly illustrated and this talk incudes some great photographs that tell the story behind this classic board game.
